When did it become all about the money? Realising that an employee relationship can’t just be based on a pay cheque

In the last few years, there have been an  increasing  number of articles in the press about the failure of the education system to produce candidates suitable for the job shortages being faced by a number of sectors, in particular the Information Technologies sector.  This is not something that is particularly peculiar to Ireland, as there is a shortage of certain skills sets, worldwide. But rather than shrug and say it is the education system’s fault for not producing a stream of people to our precise requirements, what happened to businesses  investing in their employee to create talent pools? Rather than businesses throwing money at the problem, what about building an employee/employer relationship that is more than based on the size of pay cheque?

This article considers how just throwing money at the issue, not only creates wage inflations, it also undermines the employer/employee relationship.  This article argues that money on it own, does not create a proper mature employee relationship and the smart, best people seek more from their work.
